Katja Weimann has taken home the top prize in the Bates Saddles CCI*** class aboard BP Flamboyant, at the Melbourne International 3-Day-Event (MI3DE), which concluded today, Monday, 11 June, at Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre in Victoria.

Weimann, of Berwick in Victoria outrode riders from across Australia finishing third in the initial dressage stage, completing a fault-free cross-country and having one rail down in the showjumping stage to take the title. Weimann is the first Victorian rider to win the prestigious title since 2004 when Emily Anker rode to victory.
Olympian Sonja Johnson of Western Australia, was runner up with her Belfast Mojito (right) and Victorian Seumas Marwood and Wild Oats, finishing twelfth after the dressage phase, placed third.
The MI3DE is the oldest event of its kind in the southern hemisphere and celebrates Australia’s love of the great outdoors and proud history of Olympic equestrian success.
Record numbers of families, equestrian enthusiasts and lovers of the outdoors were attracted to this year’s competition where Australian and international riders competed in dressage, cross-country and show jumping phases, at the picturesque Werribee Park precinct.
Equestrian Victoria CEO, Greg Pratt, said the 56-year old MI3DE is an event steeped in history, providing a valuable and entertaining experience over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
“It has been a fantastic weekend of sport for both Australian and international riders. We have seen some world-class performances from both our Olympian competitors and our up-and-coming local stars,” said Mr Pratt.

Christoff Hess from Germany headed up the Ground Jury with Jill Sinclair and Heather Buckland from Australia.
