kirbyparkallofasudden300x200Mustad Lowdens Saddleworld Birthday Bonanza welcomes "Destination Equestrian" - Lowdens Saddlery, in the renowned equine district of Kilmore in central Victoria, has long been a favourite stop off for horse owners and lovers of fine country clothing, rural curios and all manner of saddlery and tack for equestrian horses, racehorses and the harness industry.

The name has changed to Mustad Lowdens Saddleworld, but the service and standards of excellence remain unchanged and unchallenged.

Kilmore boasts a number of the foremost centres for horse sport including the Kilmore Racecourse where 8 annual meetings for gallopers and approximately 35 harness fixtures are conducted annually. Racing brings many visitors in to the town and contributes to creating an infrastructure of professionals and support organisations to service this important industry.

Local Hobbyists and equestrian riders value the facilities at the former stud of the late Robert Holmes a’Court, which is now known as the Hidden Valley Equestrian Centre and country club. Then there is Fimister Park Equestrian Centre with exceptional facilities and an indoor arena. At Hidden Valley and Fimister Park many of the State’s top dressage and show horses have been trained and prepared for competition, making Kilmore a hub of excellence for equestrian pursuits with a number of riders having  Olympic aspirations.

The area also boasts a number of Pony Clubs and Adult Riding Clubs and the equestrian interest is fostered through the efforts of the hard working committees at local schools who offer riding as part of the after school sports activities.

Until very recent years, Kilmore was the home of O'Dwyer Horseshoe Sales and founder, Carl O'Dwyer has been a legendary contributor to the colour and quality of the Australian horse industry for almost 5 decades.   Carl has taken a back seat in day to day operations, with his son Dan now driving innovation and diversity.

Dan's knowledge was handed down by his forebears who owned many recreational and working horses including a team of heavy harness horses. Foot care was not only a passion, but also a necessary part of ensuring that deliveries were made on time and the family business was viable.

DanODwyer200Three years ago, O'Dwyer Horseshoe Sales was bought by the global hoof-care company Mustad and a new arm of the company was headed up by Dan O’Dwyer (Picture right by Berni Saunders) who is the General Manager and Director of the entity now known as Mustad Lowdens Saddleworld.

As part of the huge and successful Saddleworld group, the vast Kilmore retail premises offers the best range, very competitive prices and has now expanded the facilities to include a 40x20 meter indoor arena with spectator and hospitality facilities which will to make it possible to run demonstrations, educational  seminars, clinics, rug, bridle and saddle fittings and product appraisals. Dan O’Dwyer said, “We believe that the location is right for such a venture and we are aware that the expanded services that the facility will enable us to offer, will be very well received.”

“It has taken 12 months to turn our long term dream into a reality, and on Thursday the 16th May 2013 we will launch “Destination Equestrian” at the same time as our Four Day Birthday Bonanza Sale. The event sees us begin a new and exciting chapter and we have set aside 4 days to ensure that we showcase the features that we have planned for the indoor arena.”

“Everyone loves Lowden's sales … and this one is set to be special with lots of bargains in the store and activities being conducted in the indoor arena and instore – take a look the program.” Enthused Dan.

“Mustad Lowdens Saddleworld is delighted to welcome Australian Silver Medallist Megan Jones to share the celebrations and she will give two x one hour Masterclasses on Friday 17th May. One commencing 10 am and another at 1 PM. Megan will work with two young local riders and these are sure to be popular sessions.”

“Saturday will have lots of variation with riding demonstrations and some interesting breeds.”

“On Sunday 19th May, our local champion dressage rider Kylie Burton will give two x one hour clinics at 10.30 AM and again at 12.45AM. Kylie will share her vast experience as a dressage champion with visitors. Recently, Kylie Burton was the Guest Riding Judge for the Dressage Ponies at the 2013 Dressage and Jumping with the Stars at Weribee Park. Kylie was greatly admired for her excellent manner and ability to quickly assess the talent and potential of the top three ponies in each age group and she also rode the Pony Champion of Champions.”

“Visitors will get a real feel for the Destination Equestrian concept when they take in the very extensive range of saddlery and hoofcare products.” Dan O’Dwyer explained. “Even though modern technologies have been introduced into hoof care, we find that people today are very aware that “NO hoof means NO horse”!   They welcome the opportunity to learn more about the most up to date concepts and products. We are very proud to be the industry leaders.”

Dan explained, “Destination Equestrian expands my family’s commitment to horses and horse people and it is exciting to be able to bring the best technologies and techniques to Australian horse people and further develop the expertise that has earned us international recognition.”

“Everyone is welcome and we look forward to catching up with old friends and meeting new ones too.” Dan O’Dwyer concluded.
