Queensland horse enthusiasts gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the long awaited, purpose built Queensland State Equestrian Centre which was held on Saturday 3rd September, 2011. The day delivered something for everyone and spirits were high. The showcase spectacular included some death defying trick riding, horsemanship and alternative training and tricks with freestyle dressage demonstration by the outstanding imported Hanoverian stallion Fishermans Friend )stands at Remi Stud) who was so well ridden by Tor Van Den Berg who is a professional based at Biddaddaba on the Gold Coast hinterland. The day came to an end with a concert which included some of Australia's favourite talent.
The ASEC brings Queensland's facilities in line with Sydney and Victoria prepares for a wider spread of the top events for all horse people. Many ambitious plans to further equestrian sport in the sunshine state have had to be put on hold due to a lack of suitable venue and events like the Queensland CDI Dressage competition has faultered for lack of the riding surface that the country's top riders expect of an international recognised event.
In the past decade interest in equestrian sport has grown and probably more that any other part of Australia the interests are interesting and diverse. Campdrafting, cutting, Arabian and other breed shows will join the sports that are part of the Olympic movement and the wider interests that work for selection in the World Equestrian Games.
Congratulations Queensland and the rest of Australia looks forward to enjoying your great weather and country minded hospitality.
